Description: This course explores the principles and concepts that apply to foot and ankle therapy. The five main topics that are covered in this course that are treatable by soft-tissue therapy are heel pain, ankle sprains, Achilles tendinitis, shin splints, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD). Heel pain includes plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, and other painful conditions that affect the heel or arch.
Goal: Health care professionals who complete this course should be able to identify and treat many of the common soft-tissue impairments, such as pain, limited range of motion, and weakness, that affect the foot and ankle. This includes being able to use thermotherapy, cryotherapy, cross-fiber friction, lymphatic drainage techniques, and stretchers for the calf muscles or the Achilles tendon.
